“留涟” : 皮皮洛蒂•瑞斯特个展

皮皮洛蒂•瑞斯特(Pipilotti Rist)的作品很适合广州。色彩斑斓、令人迷幻的花朵、天空、布料及丰饶的土地也是造访了这座中国南方城市的理由;在这里,深粉色的花朵招摇路旁,攀缘植物爬满天桥。展览标题“留涟”恰是瑞斯特常瞪眼看的标志性表情。

从灰蒙蒙、没什么绿化的北京跑到这葱茏的艺术园地真是种解脱,我也不怕再多说一句,有时候北京艺术圈也是灰突突的。这位芳龄51岁的瑞士艺术家可算从事视觉诱惑的行家里手——其知名的代表风格创作在广东时代美术馆精美呈现,展期将延续至12月中旬。

这座由雷姆•库哈斯设计的美术馆坐落于居民楼的楼顶,由13台投影仪组成的一排光束在对面的墙宇上投射着千变万化的影像画面。开幕式当晚,长厅正中央,令人眼花缭乱的图像前方,多张透明椅子围绕着一张巨大的透明桌子,入席的嘉宾(媒体、画廊主、美术馆的工作人员,以及参与支持该项目的收藏家张明一直笑呵呵地无所不在)在用甜点之前被要求与对面的嘉宾互换座位,以便在谈笑间都享用过美丽的背景墙。席间,瑞斯特趁大家不注意,抓起手持相机捕捉下了她的最爱——座上宾们的眼睛与嘴唇特写。

另外两个展厅中——得以俯瞰这座城市的玻璃幕墙——一张铺在地上的大屏幕,及一个小基座,上面盛满了琳琅满目、大小不一的玻璃球体。瑞斯特视之为观看的滤镜,个中乐趣令其开怀不已。

欢乐的开幕式将附近的居民汇集到楼下,一场音乐演出拉开了帷幕。“融入社区”是美术馆的运营宗旨之一——这一目标常在公关会议上大肆宣扬,却少有如时代美术馆这般,简单直接地索性将美术馆开到了居民楼的楼顶。

“Gentle Wave in Your Eye Fluid”: Pipilotti Rist solo exhibition.

Pipilotti Rist’s work suits Guangzhou. All the swirling colors and trippy close-ups of flowers, sky, cloth and fecund earth complement a visit to this southern city, where deep pink flowers wave by the roadside and creepers cover the flyovers. “Gentle Wave In Your Eye Fluid” is the title of the exhibition, characteristic of Rist’s goggling mode.

This verdant art is a relief from the greyness and slim vegetation in Beijing, and also – dare one say it – from its conceptually uptight and sometimes visually un-generous art scene. The Swiss artist, now 51, has long been in the business of visual seduction – her own very particular brand of which is beautifully and carefully displayed at the Guangdong Times Museum until mid-December.

The main space of this Rem Koolhaas-designed museum is host to a row of 13 projectors, which beam kaleidoscopic video onto the opposite wall. For the opening, a huge transparent table and chairs was placed down the middle of the long room in front of the swirling images, with guests (journos, gallerists, museum people and the widely-smiling, omnipresent collector Richard Chang, who was somehow involved) asked to swap sides at dessert to afford all an aesthetic backdrop to their conversation partners. At one point, Rist slipped amongst her dinner guests with a hand-held camera, gleaning the sort of close-ups of eyes and lips she so savors.

In the other two rooms—the glass walls of which overlook the city—were a screen in the floor and a small plinth holding an assortment of glass orbs of different sizes. Rist conceives of these like lenses through which to look at the view, and fun it was to indulge her.
